The pre-modern history of Java is not well-known. This holds true for the Medieval als well as for the Early Modern Period. Therefore this site is dedicated to offer some documents online, if possible, also in translation. The presentation of the sources is organized as simply as possible.
The project is organized in two parts:
- the Java Sources for the Medieval Period (understood as the period of the empires from Srivijaya to Majapahit), and the
- Java Documents for the Early Modern Period (16th to 19th century).
The project is located at the "Arbeitsstelle für die digitale Edition mittelalterlicher Quellen"
at the Centre "Geisteswissenschaften in der digitalen Welt" of the University of Hamburg

Medieval History: the Java Sources project
